This filling of the voids of the house was an attempt at looking at the reverse, merely to read the rooms as heavy solid elements of the Villa Muller and to consider the rooms as a singular element. What the exercise failed to recognise is that each room had a very individual sense of style and experience. It ignored the fact that the house could not be explored in this manner as it goes against Loo's design concept, that these are individual spaces because they each facilitate different functions.
An Architect of Words
The following was a short exercise in examining the writings of Adolf Loos and in many ways, how it apparently was dissimilar to the ornamentation represented in the Villa Muller. His work, Ornament and Crime in particular examines notions of excessive decoration as being a negative influence on design. And yet, his Villa Muller appears extremely excessive in is decorations.
