Graduate of Architecture, UNSW, Australia
Hugo Chan is a graduate of architecture, having completed a Bachelor of Architectural Studies Degree with Distinction in December 2013 and a Masters of Architecture with High Distinction in December 2015. He currently works within the Sydney based practice Cracknell & Lonergan Architects, focusing on heritage preservation and urban residential architecture. During his studies between 2010 - 2015, he obtained work experience as an intern in the fields of architecture, construction management and in client-end project management with multiple practices in both Hong Kong and Sydney.
In 2014, Hugo was part of a collaborative team representing UNSW who won the 2014 inaugural National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Affordable Housing Design Competition, a project which was subsequently exhibited at the State Library of Queensland (Brisbane) and at the UNSW Luminocity 2015 Exhibition. Since March 2016, Hugo has also been actively involved as a design studio guest critic, as lecturer and tutor assisting the management and execution of the Masters of Architecture Graduand Exhibition at UNSW and as a tutor in architectural history and theory.
Running parallel to his ongoing professional development, employment and teaching, Hugo also maintains a commentary blog on this website, Perspectives: One Small Voice, where he writes on current architectural issues as well as essays on architectural theory and history. His various engagements have been complemented by several international exchanges, including at the Institute and University of Architecture in Venice (July 2014) and at the Architectural Association Visiting School Sydney (February 2015) hosted at The University of Technology, Sydney. Most recently, in July 2015, he participated in the Architectural Association Visiting School London's ECCENTRICITY Summer School Program, engaging in a critical discourse on social-urbanism and architectural proposition for the King's Cross Masterplan.
